ENT and HSUS Join Forces to Launch E-Newsletter for Animal Lovers
Exciting New Technologies, a leading online communications provider, is lending its streaming media expertise to create an e-mail newsletter campaign designed to inform the public about and raise funds for the work of The Humane Society of The United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest non-profit animal protection organization. The e-mail newsletter will enable animal lovers to donate money directly to one of a host of HSUS campaigns or issues that match their interests.
"Though The HSUS has been successful in raising substantial funding for animal protection through direct mail campaigns, it has yet to take full advantage of the benefits of online marketing," said Ben Chodor, CEO of ENT. "Our technology will open the doors to those benefits and enable the organization to strengthen its relationships with its supporters and potential supporters around the globe."
"ENT will allow us to expand our network of educated, informed and motivated individuals who can make a difference for animals," said Paul G. Irwin, president and CEO of The HSUS. "The Humane Society of the United States' success is best measured not only in our size and the scope of our programs, but also in a body of law protecting animals and our ability to influence decision makers through grassroots outreach. This technology will not only expand our constituency to help us fulfill our mission of protecting all animals from cruelty and abuse, it will provide a much needed revenue stream during these difficult economic times."
The opt-in e-mail newsletters, which were launched on April 22, are a mix of bi-weekly and weekly mailings disseminated upon request to visitors of The HSUS Web site, www.hsus.org. The first two e-mail newsletters were the bi-weekly Pets For Life, a guide to living with your pet, and the weekly Humane Living, which outlines topical issues involving animal protection and preservation. These e-mails mimic the colorful, easy to read format of the Web site and include news pieces, expert tips, a tell-a-friend referral service and transactional capabilities enabling subscribers to donate via credit card online. The first round of e-mails was disseminated to roughly 35,000 subscribers.
In addition to the e-mail newsletter, ENT is developing an interactive CD to be mailed upon request, which includes an animal screen saver, educational streaming videos, frequently asked questions and a donation component.
During the week of April 28, The HSUS sent newsletters featuring streaming videos on a variety of animal-related topics including a "Keiko" newsletter designed to raise money to feed the orca whale of "Free Willy" movie fame, a newsletter detailing a program to save threatened and abused elephants and a newsletter for cat and dog owners. Visitors to the HSUS site can sign up for any one of six targeted newsletters based on their interests.
